Wichita Home Prices Climb Slowly but Steadily

Sedgwick County home prices during the second quarter grew 3.34 percent over the same period in 2007, according to the Wichita State Univeristy Center for Real Estate.

The figures lend credence to the notion that the Wichita home market remains fundamentally strong, even as sales so far in 2008 have fallen well behind the pace from previous years.

Local Housing Shows Signs of Rebound

Wichita's housing market snapped a three-month string of deepening sales declines in July.

Year-over-year sales declined by 11.5 percent in July, dropping to 984 sales from 1,112 in July 2007, according to figures from the Wichita Area Multiple Listing Service.

MSN Real Estate, a division of MSN.com, listed the "nine best, livable cities where you won't need to trade the good life for the boring."

Wichita is No. 1.

Weigand Starts New Home Division

J.P. Weigand & Sons, Inc. has tweaked its logo and changed its tagline as part of a multipronged effort to make it more attractive to the city's real estate agents.

The company on Wednesday also announced it would create a new-homes division to help it compete in that market. The division will be led by Richelle Knotts.

"As the market changes so do we change," says Gary Walker, who heads up the company's residential division.

County Personal Property Value Notices Mailed Next Week

The Sedgwick County Appraiser's Office will mail approximately 11,500 individual and business personal property value notices out next week.

Individual personal property includes boats, personal watercrafts, trailers, manufactured homes and off-road motor vehicles.

For businesses, personal property includes all furniture, machinery and equipment owned by the business.

Data Points to Slow Wichita Housing Market

Building permits through May were down 23 percent in Wichita compared to last year -- another sign of the soft local housing market.

Data released by First American Title on Thursday showed building permits so far this year have trailed last year's figures in most cities in the metro, including Derby, Maize and Andover.

Wichita Housing Market Takes a Hit in June

Wichita-area home sales took a big plunge in June, dropping 23.5 percent from 2007.

The June figures, from the South Central Kansas Multiple Listing Service, include across-the-board decreases in sales of new and existing houses.
