April Wichita-Area Home Sales Figures

Existing home sales increased 33.9% between March and April according to the latest figures released by the South Central Kansas MLS. Existing homes sales in April totaled 806, up from 602 units in March. The median sales price of existing homes in April increased 5.6% on a year over year basis.

New home sales increased in April to 85 units, which represents a 11.8% increase compared to March. The April median sale price of new homes decreased to $188,048 from $188,561 in March.

Existing home inventory this month was down 2.4% with 3,675 homes in inventory compared to 3,765 last month. The existing home inventory this month is 11.6% higher than it was a year ago when the existing home inventory was 3,292.

Chick-fil-A Coming to Wichita!!!

Wichita Chick-fil-A fanatics, you asked and you shall receive. The Atlanta-based fast food chain is in final negotiations to bring a freestanding Chick-fil-A to the northwest corner of Central and Rock Road where a Presto gas station has been.

Wichita Economy Improving

The WSU Leading Economic Index had a net gain of 2.8 percent from November to February. Seven of the nine index indicators the center examined improved from January to February.


Kansas initial claims for unemployment dropped by more than 50 percent and the inflation-adjusted value of Wichita’s residential building permits increased 40.2 percent over that time.


The WSU Current Conditions Index also increased, up 1 percent in February. Among the four seasonally adjusted indicators that showed improvement were home sales, up 16.5 percent in Wichita, and the hotel occupancy rate, which increased 10.3 percent.
