Wichita Economy Improving

The WSU Leading Economic Index had a net gain of 2.8 percent from November to February. Seven of the nine index indicators the center examined improved from January to February.

Kansas initial claims for unemployment dropped by more than 50 percent and the inflation-adjusted value of Wichita’s residential building permits increased 40.2 percent over that time.

The WSU Current Conditions Index also increased, up 1 percent in February. Among the four seasonally adjusted indicators that showed improvement were home sales, up 16.5 percent in Wichita, and the hotel occupancy rate, which increased 10.3 percent.
