Wichita-area home sales jumped in June, fueling hopes among local brokers that the first-time homebuyer tax credit may prop up the local market until the economy rebounds.
The 906 homes sold in June are the biggest number since August's 978, a month before credit tightened, according to figures posted Wednesday on the Wichita Area Association of Realtors' Web site.
And they're only 8.7 percent off the 992 homes sold in June 2008 after almost a year of double-digit year-over-year sales declines.
