In a hangar at Col. James Jabara Airport this morning, Mayor Carl Brewer announced that the 8th annual Wichita Flight Festival, a celebration of the city's aviation history, will be free to the public.
Admission to the festival, Aug. 29 and 30 at Jabara Airport, 3512 N. Webb Road, used to be $5, but thanks to $150,000 in funding from the city, another $110,000 in corporate partnerships and a "condensed budget," Wichitans can check out airplanes and air shows for free this year, said John D'Angelo, director of the city's Arts and Culture Department.
The festival's headlining acts were also announced at the news conference.
In addition to aircraft on display throughout Jabara's hangars, the festival will feature a wing-walking act, a jet-powered outhouse and a variety of acrobatic aerial displays by different airplanes.
The finale to the weekend will take place Saturday night with a twilight air show and a performance by Liverpool, a Beatles tribute band from Kansas City. Admission to this part of the festival will be $5.
